Description

Peach Pie with Canned Peaches is a simple, delicious dessert that delivers all the flavors of a homemade peach pie with minimal effort. Made with canned peaches, it’s the perfect easy dessert for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (15 oz) peach pie filling (or canned peaches in syrup)
  • 1 package refrigerated pie crust (or homemade if you prefer)
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for dotting the filling)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional, to balance the sweetness)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, to thicken the filling)
  • 1/4 cup sugar (optional, depending on your sweetness preference)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash, to give the crust a golden finish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare the pie crust: Roll out one of the pie crusts and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish. If you’re using store-bought crust, make sure to lightly press the edges into the dish and trim any excess dough.
  3. Prepare the filling: Open the can of peach pie filling and pour it into a large mixing bowl. If you’re using canned peaches, drain the syrup and cut the peaches into bite-sized chunks. Add the peach slices, along with some of the peach juice, to your bowl. Stir in lemon juice and sugar, if desired.
  4. Thicken the filling: If you prefer a thicker filling, mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with a tablespoon of water, and stir it into the peaches. This will help the filling set better as it bakes.
  5. Add butter: Cut the butter into small cubes and dot the top of the peach filling with the butter.
  6. Top with another crust: Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the pie filling. Trim the edges and crimp them together to seal the pie.
  7. Make an egg wash: Beat the egg and brush it over the top of the pie crust for a golden, glossy finish.
  8. Bake: Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape, then place the pie in the oven. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  9. Let it cool: Allow the pie to cool for at least 30 minutes before serving to help the filling set and make it easier to slice.

Notes

  • Use quality canned peaches: Opt for canned peaches in syrup or peach pie filling for the best consistency and flavor. If using fresh peaches, be sure to peel and slice them into uniform pieces for even baking.
  • Chill the pie crust: If you’re using homemade pie crust, refrigerate the dough for about 30 minutes before rolling it out. This helps the crust hold its shape during baking.
  • Customize the sweetness: Canned peaches can vary in sweetness, so taste the filling before adding extra sugar. Some canned peach pie fillings are already sweetened, so you may not need to add sugar at all.
  • Add a pinch of cinnamon: For an added layer of flavor, a pinch of cinnamon can make your Southern peach pie recipes stand out with a cozy, warm touch.
