Description

Garlic Bread Sloppy Joes combine two comfort food favorites—cheesy garlic bread and classic sloppy joes—into one delicious, family-friendly meal. Perfect for weeknights, parties, or anytime you crave something hearty and satisfying.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Bread:

  • 1 loaf Italian bread
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt

For the Sloppy Joe Filling:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 cup yellow onion, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup water

Toppings:

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare Bread: Slice loaf of Italian bread lengthwise and place both halves cut-side up on the baking sheet. Mix softened butter with garlic salt and spread evenly over both halves.
  3. Cook Filling: In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and onions until browned. Drain grease, then add garlic powder, mustard, ketchup, salt, pepper, and water. Stir and simmer 5–7 minutes until thickened.
  4. Assemble: Spread sloppy joe mixture evenly over garlic-buttered bread halves. Top with mozzarella and cheddar cheese.
  5. Bake: Bake for 12–15 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly and edges are golden. Let rest 5 minutes, garnish with parsley, and slice to serve.

Notes

  • Use sturdy bread so it doesn’t get soggy under the filling.
  • Drain beef well after browning for the best texture.
  • Don’t overbake—just melt the cheese and lightly crisp the edges.
  • Make-ahead: Prepare filling and garlic butter up to 1 day ahead, assemble before baking.
  • Storage: Store leftovers up to 3 days in the fridge. Reheat in a 300°F oven for 10–12 minutes.
