Ingredients
Scale
- 8 slices of sandwich bread or crescent roll dough – Provides the perfect base for wrapping the ham and cheese.
- 8 slices of ham (your choice: honey-glazed, smoked, or deli ham) – Adds a savory, salty element.
- 8 slices of cheese (cheddar, Swiss, mozzarella, or your favorite variety) – Melts beautifully inside the crispy shell.
- 2 eggs, beaten – Helps bind the breading for extra crispiness.
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs or crushed crackers – Creates a crunchy outer layer.
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder – Adds an extra layer of flavor.
- ½ teaspoon paprika – Provides a touch of smokiness.
- Salt and black pepper to taste – Enhances the overall taste.
- 2 tablespoons melted butter – Helps create a golden, crispy crust.
- Cooking spray or additional butter (for greasing the baking sheet) – Prevents sticking and ensures even browning.
Instructions
- Prepare the bread or dough – If using sandwich bread, roll each slice flat with a rolling pin to make it easier to wrap. If using crescent roll dough, cut it into strips or small rectangles.
- Assemble the cheese sticks – Place a slice of ham and a slice of cheese on each piece of flattened bread or dough. Roll them up tightly, making sure the cheese is fully enclosed to prevent leaking while baking.
- Coat the cheese sticks – Dip each roll into the beaten eggs, then roll them in panko breadcrumbs or crushed crackers mixed with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- Bake to perfection – Arrange the coated cheese sticks on a greased baking sheet, brush the tops with melted butter, and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- Cool slightly and serve – Let them cool for a few minutes before serving, as the cheese will be hot and melty. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce and enjoy!
Notes
- Use Fresh Bread or Dough – If using sandwich bread, make sure it’s fresh and soft for easy rolling. If using crescent roll or pizza dough, roll it slightly thinner for even baking.
- Seal the Edges Well – Press the edges firmly to prevent the cheese from melting out while baking. If needed, use a little egg wash to help seal the edges.
- Choose a Melty Cheese – Cheddar, mozzarella, Swiss, or Monterey Jack work best for a gooey texture. Avoid hard cheeses that don’t melt well.
