Ingredients
Scale
For the Chocolate Layer:
- 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream
- 1/2 cup (85 g) dark chocolate, melted
- 1 tablespoon (8 g) cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons (25 g) sugar
For the Coffee Mousse:
- 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons (15 g) powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon (5 g) instant coffee
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract
For the Crunchy Layer:
- 1/2 cup (50 g) crushed chocolate cookies
- 1/4 cup (30 g) chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare Chocolate Layer: Melt dark chocolate until smooth. Whisk in cocoa powder and sugar, then gradually whisk in heavy cream until silky. Let cool slightly.
- Make Coffee Mousse: Dissolve instant coffee in vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, whip heavy cream with powdered sugar to soft peaks. Gently fold in coffee-vanilla mixture.
- Assemble Trifles: In serving glasses, layer chocolate mixture, then crushed cookies, then coffee mousse. Repeat layers if desired. Chill at least 30 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Don’t over-whip cream: Stop at soft peaks to avoid curdling.
- Chill before serving: Helps layers set and flavors meld.
- Make ahead: Can be assembled up to 1 day in advance and kept chilled.
- Variations: Use milk chocolate, add fresh berries, or garnish with chocolate curls.
