Description
Make bold Garlic Pizza Sauce at home with this easy recipe—perfect for pizzas, dips, and pasta dishes!
Ingredients
1 tbsp olive oil
6 garlic cloves, finely minced or grated
1 ½ cups crushed tomatoes or tomato puree
1 tsp dried oregano
½ tsp dried basil
½ tsp onion powder
¼ tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
Optional: 1 tbsp tomato paste for thicker consistency
Optional: 1–2 tbsp grated parmesan for extra depth
Instructions
Start by heating olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Once the oil is warm but not smoking, add the minced garlic. Sauté for about 1–2 minutes, stirring frequently until the garlic is fragrant and golden—be careful not to burn it, as burnt garlic can turn bitter and overpower the sauce.
Next, stir in the crushed tomatoes or tomato puree. Add the oregano, basil, onion powder, and optional red pepper flakes. If you’re using tomato paste, mix it in now to enhance the thickness and richness of the sauce. Stir well to combine all ingredients and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
Let the sauce simmer uncovered for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally. This allows the flavors to meld together beautifully while slightly reducing the sauce for a thicker texture. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and if desired, stir in a tablespoon or two of grated parmesan for an extra savory note.
If you prefer a smooth sauce, use an immersion blender directly in the pot or transfer the mixture to a standard blender and pulse until smooth. Once your garlic pizza sauce has reached the desired consistency, remove it from heat and let it cool slightly before using.
Notes
Use this garlic pizza sauce on your next homemade pizza with mozzarella, fresh basil, and a drizzle of olive oil. It’s also amazing with veggie toppings like mushrooms, bell peppers, spinach, and olives. For a protein-packed version, top with grilled chicken or seasoned chickpeas.
Serve your garlic pizza with a side salad, roasted vegetables, or homemade potato wedges for a complete and satisfying meal. You can even use this sauce as a base for pizza-inspired wraps or quesadillas.
