For the Casserole:
- 5–6 large croissants, cut into chunks
- 2 cups mixed fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, or blackberries)
- 4 large eggs
- 1 ½ cups (360ml) whole milk
- ½ cup (120ml) heavy cream
- ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
For the Topping (Optional):
- ¼ cup (30g) powdered sugar (for dusting)
- ½ cup whipped cream or Greek yogurt
- Maple syrup or berry sauce for serving
Instructions
1. Preheat & Prep
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.
2. Assemble the Casserole
- Cut croissants into bite-sized pieces and spread them evenly in the baking dish.
- Sprinkle fresh berries over the croissants.
3. Make the Custard
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon (if using).
- Pour the custard mixture evenly over the croissants and berries, ensuring all the pieces are soaked.
4. Bake Until Golden
- Let the mixture sit for 5-10 minutes to absorb the custard.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, until the top is golden brown and set.
- Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
5. Add Toppings & Serve
- Dust with powdered sugar and drizzle with maple syrup or berry sauce.
- Serve warm with whipped cream or Greek yogurt on the side.
